People always ask me how I keep things organized with 3 boys...Here are some of the things that have saved my ass... Because let's be honest no mom really has their shit together...they might look like it but, in all reality ...every mom will forget about a sack lunch she was supposed to send for a field trip or send your kid to school in the wrong clothes for the weather.
#1 - Make a command centerYes this is what keeps things in line because our rule is ... if it is not on the calendar...it's not going to happen. I have problems some days making sure that I have everything I need for the day....to add 3 kids and a husband plus our 2 fur babies...NOT going to happen unless it is written down!
I have started out slow...and built up to what we have now.... lots of re-decorating changing things...new calendar...new white boards just trying to make things work. Here is where we are at the end on summer 2018! "end of summer mess"
#2 - Try and keep a schedule. I am now laughing as I am typing this because it is soooooooooo easy for people to say...but the reality is that it is BEYOND hard to do. I mean with all the sports, and band lessons, and making dinner, cleaning up after 5 bodies and 2 dogs...you are dead tired...did I mention that you just worked a 9-hour day at your full-time job!
So the ONLY thing that keeps time from getting away from me is....alarms...and I am not talking about your normal alarm clocks....I am talking we have 4 Amazon Echo Dots and 2 Google Homes in our house...plus all the alarms that are on my phone....and alarms on my Fitbit Versa! Like I said...this is not easy shit to do so you have to have something reminding you to remind everyone in your household what they are supposed to be doing!
#3 - Make a monthly menu. Now this is important because it helps with your budget (which I will talk about later) Plus it will also help prevent this conversation from happening ALL THE TIME:
Mom - "What do you all want for dinner?" - Kids and husband - "I don't know"...."Pizza"...."Mc Donald's"...."I don't care"
The best part about a menu is you can have everyone in the family pick a meal. This will help with arguments of I don't like that, and he always gets to pick. This is our menu for August...it's just a simple menu to get us back into the groove but usually starting in September I will even try and make it fun. So, every day of the week has a theme! Some months we have like Manic Mondays...Taco Tuesdays. Things like that. My favorite is Crock pot Thursdays! I will post more about monthly menu and ideas soon, because that is a whole page of ideas and recipes!!!
Once you get the monthly menu done...and want to go one step further because I hate answering the same damn question every single night! "Mom what are you cooking!" I have a weekly menu that is on the counter.
I know this seems like allot of extra work but to me it's even more work answering the same question day after day and night after night.... not once, not twice, but at least 3 times! You can read more about my monthly menu here!
